Summer vacation is a great time for high school students from China to spend some weeks improving their English language skills and experience North American culture first-hand. Each summer since 2007 MPC has hosted a group of students.
In 2015 nearly sixty students spent four weeks in the U.S. They visited historical sights in places like New York City, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles, but the highlight of each summer camp is the two weeks that students spend with an American family. MPC enlists the support of church communities who are willing to host students in their homes, arrange English classes and activities, and help these teenagers understand a little of what another culture is like. The friendships and experiences are meaningful for both the hosts and guests.
The majority of the students come from several high schools in Nanchong, Sichuan and Anqing, Anhui. MPC has language teachers from North America in each of these locations and strong Chinese partners. These partners make an effort to stay in touch with the participating students and families after they return from North America.
